The Fears and Anxieties of Retirement

Americans are seemingly in a constant state of worry about their finances and financial well-being, according to a Northwestern Mutual Planning and Progress Study. The study reported that 85% of the respondents felt some form of financial anxiety.

 

Fear is one of the most powerful emotions. It has a very strong effect on your mind and body. Fear may be a one-off feeling when you are faced with something unfamiliar, or it can be an everyday, long-lasting problem. The fact is fear and anxiety can affect all of us every now and then.

 

When considering these fears and anxieties, there are a number of questions that we address with clients planning for or living in retirement. This article highlights 10 questions that seem to surface most often and highlights the importance of continuing to prepare for life’s events. Staying fully informed and planning ahead should help alleviate a lot of the fears that come with the uncertainty of retirement.

 

Americans’ financial anxieties aren’t going to disappear overnight, but with a little planning and some accountability, many of these anxieties could slowly disappear over time.
